Hi There ... my name is Sere Wilde and
... I am the host of “How To Make Money With Your
Camcorder.”
In Christmas 1999, my family gave me a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder. Over a period of time, I eventually read through the entire
60 page Instruction Manual and learned how to use the various combinations of switches, buttons, dials, menus, sliders, pre-sets and focus rings to get a good quality video that others would enjoy watching.
Somewhere along the way, I developed an insatiable appetite for learning what ideas that other camcorder owners were using to earn
substantial money.
Now before we get into more specific details about How To Make Money With Your Camcorder, let's talk about basic equipment that you will need to become successful with DVD's and VHS tapes.
CAMCORDER REQUIREMENTS
Your camcorder should have the following options:
1. Record in a Mini DVD format
2. Manual White Balance
3. External Microphone Jack
4. Headphone Jack
5. Automatic Gain Control
6. Optical Zoom
7. Manual Focus Ring
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
You'll need a telephone and a Post Office Box. With proper video editing software for your computer and you will be able to operate your one person video production company virtually anywhere in the United States that you have an Internet connection.
It is helpful for you to know that there are also plenty of 800 number phone order companies available that can take your order also via fax or email and you'll find company listings in the "Answering Bureau" section of your metropolitan Yellow Pages.
DOING MARKET RESEARCH
In my video “How To Make Money With Your Camcorder”, I show you how to use the
latest US Government Statistics to identify a group of people sharing a common interest.
((2007 Statistical Abstract of the United States, Item Number : -003-024-09066-0 $35.00 1016 pages. Available from the Superintendent of Documents/United States Government Printing Office, 732 North Capitol Street NW, Washington DC 20401)).
The statistics that you see below are now clues for you to aim your video products at. Specific target audiences for your efforts could include ...
The 19,423,000 who played billiard or pool 3 or more times in 2005.
The 16,421,000 who went to auto shows 3 or more times in 2005.
The 74,560,000 who enjoyed barbecue cooking 3 or more in 2005.
The 19,824,000 who enjoyed going out dancing 3 or more times in 2005.
The 27,135,000 who enjoyed visiting museums 3 or more times in 2005.
The 7,070,000 who enjoyed playing chess 3 or more times in 2005.
The 25,495,000 who enjoyed playing video games 3 or more times in 2005.
You might ask yourself what do these figures mean to you. Well, for starters ...these communities of like-minded individuals are relatively easy to find in your neighborhood sports leagues, political organizations, Yellow Page listings and many other methods.
Their active participation means these individuals have become passionate about their hobbies and now these organizations become the perfect groups for you to approach and sell its’ members your video product.
To bring this concept to life, let’s use the 19,423,000 people who actively went out to play pool/billiards 3 or more times in 2005. Can you guess how many know about or subscribe to the leading magazine in the field
((Pool & Billiards, 115 South Main Street, Summerville SC 29483-9999. Circulation: 20,000. Www.poolmag.com)) and would welcome a custom video of the World Summit of Pool including recent interviews with championship pool players as well as other pros, semi-pros and top rated amateur players from over 20 countries.
How many would welcome a video showing these talented individuals at work or behind the scenes practicing their stop, stun, drag and frozen ball shots before going out on one of the 41 Senior Tour - Fast Eddies - Junior Billiard Tours now taking place all across the United
States?
By using cost effective classified and display advertising in publications such as Pool and Billiards or Billiard magazine, you have the opportunity to sell 100+ of videos videos to competitors (including their family members) and other interested parties both local and overseas. At $40, $50 or more each.
Of course, this marketing doesn’t end here. You will find that these videos have a world wide audience and can be sold to other professional and semi professional pool players looking for an edge on the competition and would welcome the opportunity to see their hero up-close and personal as they engage in tournament play.
Let’s use another example of how to use the Statistical Abstract of the United
States.
In the video “How To Make Money With Your Camcorder”, I tell you how you
can easily find the consumer and trade magazines that cover your field of interest.
Let take the topic of “Model Building” to serve as an example of what you can do.
Go to your local public library and ask to see the Reference Librarian. This college graduate goes to school and typically earns a Master’s or Doctorate degree in the art and science of finding information.
MOST VALUABLE PUBLICATION
Ask to see the current “Ulrich’s Guide to Periodicals” ( R.R. Bowker, 630 Central Avenue, New Providence NJ 07974-1506)). Within the subject heading of Hobbies, you will find “Models.” And, upon checking further, you will see 27 pages of special interest magazine titles covering every aspect of plastic, wood, metal and cloth fabric models from airplanes to trains.
This valuable and expensive reference work comprises some 2600 pages of fine print listing the current title (and address information) of over 15,000 magazines, journals and newsletters looking for readers and advertisers. A quick glance at the publications available include titles such as “American Small Farm
(Magazine)” ((560 Sunbury Road # 6, Delaware OH 43015-8692)) to “Womanish Theory and Research” ((312 Candler Hall, Athens GA 30602-3012)).
You noticed that there were 3,111,111 people in this country that enjoy making model airplanes, model trains, model cars, model cars and model ships. There is a publication called “Fine Scale Modeler” ((21027 Crossroads Circle, Waukesha WI 53186-4055)) that has a combined newsstand and subscription circulation of 53,249 and has an estimated pass along readership of 85,198. This 68 page magazine comes out 10 times a year.
Another consumer orientation that serves the model building hobbyist is called “Model Airplane News” ((Air Age Publishing, 100 East Ridge, Ridgefield CT 06877-4606)). This is a glossy 122 page monthly magazine that some enthusiasts consider to the world’s leading authoritative on model airplanes since it began publishing in 1929 for static and radio controlled flying model aircraft. Content from this magazine includes detailed scale drawings as well as hints and other how-to articles on building and flying remote control.
So you are saying to yourself ...”Why is this kind of information important to me ...especially ....if I am not interested in models of any kind?”
There are over 15,000 special interest publications published annually in the United States. That means that you can advertise within these publications to find interested parties for your video product. Put more gently, you can more easily find the needle in the haystack without having to pitch away a lot of hay to find your ideal customer.
Special interest magazines such as “Tropical Fish Hobbyist” , “Vintage Truck” or “Billiards Digest” means that ...
• That there is a large enough group of people interested enough to read a magazine on the subject. And that a percentage of them will buy books, audio tapes and videos on this particular subject.
• That these readers demonstrate by their newsstand purchase or subscriptions that they are more than passionate about the subject at hand.
For most special interest publications, you can rent their mailing lists so that you can offer your product directly to their subscribers via direct mail and/or place classified or display advertisements.
Imagine yourself coming out with a DVD with a DVD that shows trade show exhibitors talking about their various products of considerable interest to the beginning model builder. A DVD that allows vendors to talk about their products and allows the viewer to attend a trade show from the comfort and luxury of their living room.
The key idea here is to come up with a video project that would interest 400 people out of the 300,000,000 people in the United States. People interested enough to pay you $25 for the video. And $25 times 400 equals $10,000.
If you don’t have an the necessary equipment to shoot and edit video, you can always hire a video production company (the metropolitan Yellow Pages has pages of video production companies) to do so.
Usually less than $500 a day for one person and one camera for an 8 hour day.
In the long run, you’ll find there is no substitute for self-education in learning for yourself how to perform the fundamental elements of shooting, editing and DVD
duplication.
Look for three fresh items each week from daily and weekly newspapers as you read them faithfully from cover to cover. Typically, in the
Calendar section you will find listing after listing of Comedy Clubs where up-and-coming comedians polish their material as they wait to hit it big. Community events such as robot wars involving competitions and displays. Community theater groups looking for audiences. And perhaps, the biggest section of all are the nightclub, bar and restaurant listings where local bands perform their sets seeking to impress the booking agents of bigger venues.
Each of the above sections is a marketplace for the astute video entrepreneur looking for a niche.
You also want to look specifically for the announcements about forthcoming community activities such as youth and adult athletic leagues, civic awards to community leaders as well as speaking engagements at local churches and civic groups.
As you read and save these announcements into a binder, ask yourself ...”Would anybody in attendance be interested in buying a video of this event?”
Pick up the phone and call the contact person listed in the announcement, introduce yourself as a video entrepreneur and “Are you looking to have this event video taped for those unable to attend?” And you could also “Would it be important to you to have this event video taped for future reference?”
Do this faithfully for a period of weeks until you discover several money making concepts that interest you in making money with your camcorder.
And then explore actually doing each one of the concepts ...whether it is taping the monthly meetings of your local Kiwani’s Club or taping the speaker giving a presentation at your local YMCA or the detailed restoration of a vintage car/truck/airplane.
If you are reading this special report then you probably already have the basic ingredients of starting up your own video production company. You are financially ahead of the game if you already have a late model camcorder and late model computer. For less than $2,000, you can get a brand name digital camcorder, new desktop computer and quality video editing software.
There are probably hundreds of different ways to make money with your camcorder. With a little library research including the study the
Statistical Abstract of the United
States, you can find countless hot button topics that interest thousands of people in your neighborhood and perhaps across the country.
Several years ago, I developed a friendship with a young lady who has a deep personal interest in homemade crafts such as candle making. To my amazement, yesterday on eBay I found a 43 minute video on learning how to make candles for fun or profit selling for $12. A video overflowing with useful tips on how to combine beeswax, wicks, color and scents into decorative candle for sale.
The point of this is that if something interests you ... there are others interested in the same subject. Maybe hundreds. Maybe thousands. Perhaps millions just waiting to spend money on something that interests you and them.
To set the tone of how some people are making money with camcorders, let me mention the following examples of how video entrepreneurs are making money by targeting a specific group of potential customers.
As you read about the ideas presented, think of them as “idea starters” for coming up with your own unique idea to make money with your camcorder.
